My approach to basketball training is to ensure that players of all positions can execute all of the fundamental skills they need to succeed in the sport. I have always believed that sports specific fitness is essential for performance. I help players to be fit enough to last the game, which allows them to apply their skills without having to worry about fatigue. This approach can be summed up with the phrase “train harder than you expect the game to be”.

When coaching teams, I always believe that every player has something unique to them that they can offer the team. I seek to identify that quality within the individual and allow them the opportunity to bring that quality to the team’s success. Every player should have the opportunity to shine in their own way, while also continuing to progress in their development.

Here’s a brief overview of my coaching experience:

-Coached local and national league teams at adult and junior levels.
-Ran local basketball clubs for mixed ability participants.
-Worked as a team manager and coach at an England Basketball regional development camp.
-Coached in schools to various age groups.

I was visiting Reading for a few days with my super competitive “baller” daughter, who asked that we look for a basketball coach while we were there, to make up for the training sessions she was missing while we were away.  Steve to the rescue.  Ava had 2, 1.5 hour sessions over the course of 2 days.  She came back exhilarated and delighted as Steve had “fixed” her shot.  He identified areas of weakness and worked diligently and patiently with her on these without ever making her feel insecure about them.  She is now scoring in games like never before and has a renewed sense of confidence that she firmly puts down to his attention to detail with her.  I would highly recommend Steve for anyone wanting to improve their game and fix the areas that are potentially holding them back from achieving their goals.-Sinead

Steve does an excellent job in greeting everybody, pre session warm up, shooting drills, lay up drills, team building exercises which ultimately lead into a full or half court game. He balances the teams very well so it isn't a 1 sided affair. He's also a very good referee calling travels, and foul plays. After this we cool down and stretch.-Daljeet

UTC Reading aims to promote a healthy lifestyle for our students & staff; sports and physical exercise are an important part of our extra-curricular programme that was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2015. For the last two years, UTC Reading have used Shreeve Health & Fitness to deliver Basketball Coaching Workshops. These sessions are delivered in a professional manner with a structure that allows students of all abilities to participate successfully, whilst improving their confidence and genuinely enjoying being active. Steve clearly has deep knowledge and a strong passion for Basketball that encourages students to engage and have fun. An excellent service that students have enjoyed immensely.

I have only had a few 1-2-1 sessions with Steve and they have all been well designed and prepared for.  Steve has an encyclopaedic knowledge of how the human body works and has the skill to ensure you improve the areas you want.  His sessions with me have improved my own knowledge about how muscles interact with each other and my basketball skills have improved as a direct result of the drills I've learned.  He's also a great bloke and I enjoy every session I have with him.
I would recommend Steve without hesitation for anyone who wishes to improve any aspects of their health and fitness.-Neil
